The adventures of Rob

Over the time that I have had at my disposal, I have learnt a lot about becoming a hiking guide. Just like a typical entrepreneur I honed my craft by marching my friends up and down the mountain. I love you guys.

One of these missions was with my good friend Goeff. I took him up Constantia Nek and we went past the dams to Disa spring, the source of the water that fills the 5 dams of Table Mountain in Table Mountain National Park. From there we went to Old Town ruins, the Quarry and the site of the old cable car dating back to the late 1800s. We ended the hike by taking the route from there across the Woodhead reservoir and back down the way we came.
It’s amazing getting together with friends and spending the day without the hustle and bustle of city life.

Buy hiring a qualified hiking guide, they can help you stich together something and get you to multiple destinations efficiently and safely.

I think this will be punted over and over in this blog post. Most say why not just go up on your own. It’s easy. It would amaze you how many lost and disheveled people I find on the mountain. From the Russian lady who we found on Devils peak who was asking if this was the way to the cable car, to the cases of people who just didn’t take enough water. These are just the light cases, if you follow mountain rescue you will see situations where people have had some serious accidents. The time to rescue is amplified by people who don’t even know what number to call when or worse, have no method of communication.

Another group I took up was Pete and his wife, this was great fun. He isn’t too comfortable on a ledge, but he had a good sense of humor about it. We went up and even managed the chains and staples. Don’t know if you have had that pleasure, but it’s a great introduction to what you are capable as a novice. On we went and had some breakfast on the flat top and then did the typical phots at the “Insta spots”. Eventually we needed to leave and started the hilarious downward spiral of Lions Head.
